On May 23, 1927 Local 83 was granted the honor of receiving it's charter from the International Union of Elevator Constructors. Local 83 has proudly served Tulsa and the surrounding areas with skilled and qualified labor for almost 100 years.

The Local has recorded minutes without failure until the bombing of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, an attack that sent this great nation into World War II. As most of the country did, our members were ready and willing to take up arms immediately. After the war ended or veterans came home, and returned to work and began the arduous task of growing and strengthening this great Local, intern strengthening our great city of Tulsa.

During the great oil boom of the 1960's Tulsa grew into the oil capital of the world, and with it grew Local 83. Throughout the 1960's and 1970's Tulsa thrived and the members of the Local proudly put in some of the finest well built elevators and escalators in the country. Tulsa also started constructing two large buildings of over 60 stories, with the help of the Elevator Constructors.

I.U.E.C. Local 83 has always trained and provided some of the most skilled elevator mechanics in the nation, sending these people to Chicago, San Francisco, Dallas, New York, and all over this great country to construct adjust and trouble shoot elevator, escalator, dumbwaiters, and moving walks.

We have provided our Native brothers and sisters the labor to put in the most state of the art equipment in their beautiful world renowned casinos. To keep up with the ever changing industry of the elevator trade we have through N.E.I.E.P. education program provided the most hands on state of the art classroom training for our technicians. Our education program is far and away above any program provided for any other elevator, escalator, dumbwaiter, or moving walk training in the country, and it is constantly evolving with the industry we support.

The hospitals, churches, schools, offices buildings, personal residential, and every other space with elevator equipment has been constructed and maintained by Local 83 members in this great area for almost 100 years and we hope to continue that great legacy for 100 more.
